Edinburgh

The capital of Scotland is a great place to live and study, with a wide range of theatres, galleries, clubs and shops to explore, not to mention the plethora of arty bars and cafes.

With its stunning Georgian and Victorian architecture, and winding medieval streets, it’s easy to see why Edinburgh has been listed as a World Heritage Site.

And the setting is captivating. Edinburgh Castle dominates the urban skyline, perched atop the crags of an ancient volcano right in the centre of the city.

Yet Edinburgh is not stuck in the past. And neither is it all about bagpipes, shortbread, whisky and tartan.

In fact, the city is one of the most vibrant, cosmopolitan cities in Europe and is regularly voted as one of the most desirable places to live in the world.

Cardiff:

The Capitol of Wales: with its seven delightful Victorian shopping arcades and traffic-free streets, extends from the railway station to the impressive castle. This is Cardiff's traditional commercial and social heart but, increasingly, Cardiff Bay, 2km (1 mile) or so to the south, has been gaining ground in the entertainment and leisure stakes, as well as becoming an important administrative centre. One can’t miss the city while traveling within UK. And while you are in Cardiff the Red Dragon Center at the Cardiff Bay is the place to be. The Red Dragon Centre is fast becoming one of Cardiff's most exciting destinations, offering a complete leisure and entertainment experience all under one roof.

Swansea:

The City of the Ocean: with the waterfront of the Atlantic. The City’s historic docklands set the agenda for waterfront Britain when they became one of the UK’s first – and finest – Maritime Quarters. And the transformation goes on at the exciting new SA1 Waterfront, an icon to 21st-century living and lifestyles

From fishing to fashion – that’s what’s happened to Mumbles over the last few hundred years. What was once a tiny fishing village has blossomed into a stylish sailing and watersports centre that’s busy throughout the year. It’s a desirable place to live, too. Catherine Zeta Jones, who returns regularly to her Mumbles home, thinks so.

Bristol:

Sightseeing in Bristol offers a great opportunity to explore and make the most of a short break in the area. From Brandon Hill to the Cliff, we've put together ideas for getting out and seeing the sights of Bristol.

Bath:

A stroll through historic Bath is like visiting an open-air museum. About 5,000 buildings have achieved notice for their architectural merit, from the Roman Baths to the magnificent Abbey and the collection of Georgian homes known as The Circus. Follow in the footsteps of Jane Austen with a visit to her elegant townhouse, now an exhibition space in her honor, and the Assembly Rooms where she once attended society events. After a long day of walking, soak in the natural hot waters of the Thermae Bath Spa.
